Abstract: | Malaria kills one child every 30 seconds, about 3000 children every day. Over one million people die from malaria each year. This problem has history approximately 30 million years back. Malaria is transferred by 422 species of Anopheles widespread globally and it is the socioeconomic factor that helps in it. Pregnant women are more susceptible to the adverse effects of malaria. They are more prone to P. falciparum infection as compared to non-pregnant women and, once infected, there is a tendency of transient down regulation of cell-mediated immunity that occurs during pregnancy. newlineCytokine level also changes during infection in comparison to healthy subjects. A significant decrease in IL-6, IL-8 was seen in sera of Malaria in pregnancy than their healthy counterparts suggests the role of these cytokines in the immune-pathogenesis of malaria infection . TNF-alpha, IL-10 was significantly elevated in MIP as compared to its healthy counterparts implicates their role in immuno-protection and in the clearance of parasitaemia. newlineDendritic cells plays a crucial role during malaria infection they efficiently produce proinflammatory cytokines, and, as the infection progresses, their ability to produce proinflammatory cytokines is gradually reduced, and they acquire increased capacity to produce anti-inflammatory responses. newlineHaematological study indicated clearly how Hb value decreases in MIP specially during pregnancy. A significant correlation was also found between CRP levels and parasitaemia. Significant difference have also been accorded between the CRP level of P. vivax infected pregnant subject and healthy pregnant women and mixed infection and Healthy pregnant women which is statistically very significant. newline newline |
