Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites (AMC s) are considered asan efficient class of structural materials and exhibits excellent properties interms of both mechanical and metallurgical. Some properties of AMC s thatmake it as most preferable in many of the industrial applications are highstrength to weight ratio, hardness, and better wear resistance. However, theavailable techniques pertaining to forming, machining, and joining arelimited. The main constraint of AMC s that restricts its use in many of the newlineapplications is non availability of proper welding technique for joining. Thefusion welding process is most widely used joining technique for metals andits alloys and it is found to be ineffective in welding metal matrix composites. The problems associated with welding metal matrix composites are affiliatedto the segregation and deleterious reactions of reinforcement particles in thematrix metal during solidification phase. To elude these problems, solid statewelding techniques are suggested as an alternative for joining composites.Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is such type of solid state welding process, inwhich joining takes place without melt or recast. newline newline newline
