Abstract: | The component of an Internal Combustion (IC) engine, mainly piston and connecting rod require high attention due to its usage with high fatigue loading. The performance of the piston depends on the piston material and it needs to be investigated. The marks on the piston and the location of the failure zone on a piston are investigated. The chemical analysis was carried out to identify the composition influence over the piston failure using optical emission spectrometry. The hardness of the fractured piston is measured using a Rockwell hardness tester with 150 kg load and analysed the microstructure using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Similarly, braking rotor also requires more attention on its wear behaviour and life newlinecycle. In this research work an attempt is made to fabricate effective and lightweight materials for IC engine piston, connecting rod and brake rotor. Aluminium based metal matrix composite can be used as a piston material instead of cast iron and cast aluminium alloy. In the present study, the metal matrix component is fabricated using various weight percentage of SiC, fly ash and basalt which are used as reinforcements in the following aluminium alloys Al6082, Al7075 and Al356 by stir casting method. In the present investigation, the Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs) are split in to three groups namely Group A, Group B, Group C. The each Groups preparing three samples. newline newline newline |
