Abstract: | Education on diabetes and Hyperlipidemia is a major step towards better management of the disease. In western and developing economies, both these diseases occur in epidemic proportions. Therefore, this study was planned to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding disease and diet in diabetic and hyperlipidemic patients. newline200 patients, comprising of 100 diabetic and 100 hyperlipidemic patients, were selected from private/public hospitals in Meerut district by purposive sampling. The instruments used were as follows- newlineDiabetes Knowledge test by Michigan Diabetes Research Centre (2016). newlineDiabetes Attitude Survey by Michigan Diabetes Research Centre (1998). newlineThese instruments were taken from Michigan Diabetes Research centre, University of Michigan and used with permission. newlineDiabetes Self Management Questionnaire by Andreas Schmitt (2013). newlineKAP Scale for Hyperlipidemia which was used for assessing Knowledge, Attitude and Practices on hyperlipidemic patients was constructed by the researcher. The questionnaire was given to five subject experts for content validity. The suggestions recommended were incorporated by the researcher in the questionnaire. newlineThe Hindi translation of all the tools was done with the help of Hindi experts. newlineA pilot study on 20 hyperlipidemic patients was done to test the tool. The discrepancies found were removed and corrections were made again. newlineStatistical investigation of the gathered data was examined using Microsoft Excel, SPSS (version 21) to calculate mean scores, frequency, percentages, t test, Z test and Pearson correlation. newlineThe result shows the percentage of hyperlipidemic patients in the various categories of Knowledge, Attitude and Practices subscale i.e. Good, Average and Poor (seventy five, twenty five and zero for knowledge) (sixty five, thirty five and zero for attitude) (fifty five, forty five and zero for practices). The overall Knowledge, Attitude and practices scores of hyperlipidemic patients shows Group B (51-70 years) having high mean scores as compared to Group A. |
