Abstract: Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a non-infrastructure network which is made of numerous cost-efficient sensor nodes with limited power but posses multi-functional capability. Sensor nodes have four components, namely sensing, processing, communication, and power unit. The main challenge in the use of sensors is that their power is restricted and the batteries are not rechargeable. The energy conservation is the most important factor which should be taken into account when the sensor nodes are designed. By limiting the energy consumption, battery life can be extended. Building Management System (BMS) uses automation and it plays a vital role in monitoring of mechanical and electrical equipments. The advent of smart sensors have led to improvement in processing power, which is more flexible in incorporating new innovations, as well as energy conservation schemes. Due to lack of automation in the conventional WSN networks, switching ON or OFF can lead to the participation or non-participation of the Cluster Head (CH) process. The scope and main objective of the this research is to investigate and propose novel approaches to improve the energy efficiency based on energy consumption of the sensor node by increasing the number of cluster formation, decreasing average end to end delay, decreasing average packet loss rate, increasing the percentage of nodes alive, increasing network lifetime and improving the effectiveness of BMS.The research focus is to improve the energy conservation in a BMS by reducing unnecessary consumption of energy. The research is concerned mainly with BMS having the general objective of minimizing the daily energy usage without compromising the comfort of the occupantand#8223;s. newline newline newline
