Abstract: Soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis is a special field of earthquake engineering. Every seismic structural response is caused by soil-structure interaction forces impacting structure. Earthquake is the result of sudden release of energy in the earth s crust that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes cause damages to structures and result in great human casualties and economic loss. In order to take precaution for the loss of life and damage of structures due to the ground motion, it is important to understand the characteristics of the ground motion. It is well known that soil-structure interaction (SSI) is one of the critical factors influencing response and damage in structures during earthquakes. The problems in soil-structure interaction (SSI) are important topic and interesting in engineering practice. During an earthquake, the SSI effects have an important role in determining the behavior of structures. Success of earthquake resistant design practices critically depends on how newlineaccurately the future seismic hazard and ground motion can be determined at a desired site. In a seismic soil-structure interaction analysis, it is necessary to consider and layered nature of soil strata and the nonlinear behaviours of soft soils. The study area falls under Erode District which is located in the state of Tamilnadu, India. Erode district covers an area of 8161.91 km2. In the present study area of Erode district covers only plain area 5492.19 km2 excluding hilly and Reserved forest area on North by latitude 10°36 34 and 11°58 45 on the East by longitude 76°49 35 and 77°58 45 , 171.91 meters above the mean sea level and having a population 2,251,744 as per 2011 census. newline newline newline
