Abstract: Introspection is the assessment of one s own conscientious belief and attitude. It affirms that one s desires are intimate to enlightenment of one s actions because, one acts according to one s strongest desires. The novels of Shashi Deshpande, the winner of the Sahitya Academy Award, are evidently self-assessment. Self-realizing people discern what they actually think, feel, and believe; they are competent to acquire accountability for themselves and to decide their values and endeavor in life. Their attitude and assessment are in the finest concern both of their own growth and that of other people. and#8213;Depiction of Introspection in Shashi Deshpande s Select Novelsand#8214; is conspicuously stressed on the need for improving the human relationships, female psyche, family space and marriage through the protagonists and their process of introspection from the novels The Dark Holds No Terrors (1980), That Long Silence (1987), A Matter of Time (1998) and Small Remedies (2000). Family is an indispensable entity in the Indian society. When there is compatibility between a man and a woman living together in a family with their kids, there is a kind of healing in the family, such as less strain, more contentment and more indulgent. The women are the soul of our community and they are self built and self trained human, responsible for the morale development of their children, inspiration for the family and an example for the community to follow. This research portrays Indian traditional familial relationships especially middle class educated women s proviso in the patriarchal society without finding fault the men community. There is a need of study for today s women who are in the cross road of self discovery and a little newlinepercentage of women are influenced by the western cultural impact. The above mentioned four novels proffer the requisite of introspection and the two survival newlinestrategies of adjustment and compromise without losing the individuality and newlinefamily bondage of the protagonists. newline newline
