Abstract: | Nowadays, Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are one of the motor types rapidly gaining popularity. The only drawback of Direct Current (DC) motor is that it needs a commutator and brushes which are subject to wear and it requires maintenance. In BLDC motors, as the name implies (brushless), when the functions of commutator and brushes are implemented by solid-state switches, maintenance-free motors are realized. BLDC motors have many advantages over brushed DC motors and induction motors which has better speed versus torque characteristics, high dynamic response, high efficiency, long operating life, noiseless operation and newlinehigher speed ranges. In addition, the ratio of torque delivered to the size of the newlinemotor is higher, making it useful in applications where space and weight are critical factors. The applications of BLDC motor are widely used in many industries that grow as rapidly as the developments in power electronic technology, manufacturing technology for high performance magnetic materials and modern control theory for motor drives. Modern intelligent motion applications demand accurate speed and position control due to the favourable electrical and mechanical properties of BLDC motor. Many machines and control methods have been developed to improve the performance of BLDC motor drives. newline newline |
