Abstract: The present research describes the nature of the process of economic change in the Uttarakhand newline state. In contrast to standard economic theory, the key to evolutionary change is the newline intentionality of the actors choices and decisions that are made in the light of those newline perceptions with the intent of producing outcomes by reducing uncertainties of organizations, newline manufacturing firms in this context - in pursuit of their goals. Uttarakhand s growth, therefore, newline is for the most part of a conscious process of adoption of industrial policies to promote newline industrialisation in the narrow belt of the plain region of the state, shaped by the perceptions of newline the political and economic actors about the consequences of their actions. newline The emerging and evolving structure of industrial agglomerations witnessed in the last decade newline is an accumulation of policy reforms with the artefacts that have evolved as a part of this newline accumulation to alter the environment and consequently, resulted in formal and informal newline institutions the key to explaining performance as well as framing conditions for regional newline growth. The research is a study about a sober understanding of this process of economic newline change, to account for the diverse performance of economies of past and present, over time by newline comprehending institutional arrangements in the state-economic interface. newline The research comprises data-to-data inquiry of the contribution of the manufacturing newline production system to regional development in Uttarakhand. Part one outlines the changes in newline the income estimates in the last one and half decades and different aspects of the labour market newline of the state. Part two gauges the relationship between productivity, technology and wage share, newline at the plant and industry level, as a key driving force for sustained economic growth and newline competitiveness by analysing unit records of the Annual Survey of Industries by creating a newline pooled database covering 2000-01 to 2013-14 and resorting to OLS and GLS regressions. In newline the empirical exploration, part three provides a deeper understanding of the nature and sources newline of cheek by jowl clustering of manufacturing firms at a plant level using primary survey carried newline out in Dehradun, Haridwar and Pantnagar by employing structural equation modeling. Besides newline the modeling, narratives were taken down to add weightage to the inferential analysis. The newline thesis seeks to comprehend the unfolding of events over time in the state, in stylized theoretical newline settings. newline Keywords: Institutions, Manufacturing Firms, Unit-level ASI, Industrial Agglomerations. newline
