Abstract

Brushless DC BLDC motors are, in fact a type of permanent newlinemagnet synchronous motors with a very high level of efficiency An attempt newlinehas been made in this research work to design and implement four quadrant newlinecontrol of a BLDC motor drive with regenerative braking in either direction newlinewith a digital signal controller It is also envisaged to store the power newlineavailable during regenerative braking in a chargeable battery The design and newlineimplementation of this research work has two phases The first phase is the newlinedesign and simulation of four quadrant control of the BLDC motor The next newlinephase is the design and construction of a hardware circuit for the controller newlineSimulation is carried out using MATLAB A Simulink model is newlinedeveloped to simulate and analyze the operation of the motor A permanent newlinemagnet synchronous machine with trapezoidal back EMFis modeled as a newlineBLDC machine A controller has been modeled with feedback signals from newlinethe Hall sensors of the motor Based on the Hall signals gate pulses PWM newlinepulses are generated and appropriate switches of the inverter circuit are newlinetriggered to achieve precise control of the motor The voltage across the newlinebattery which is charged during the braking period is also measured newline newline
