Abstract: | Organic chemistry as it stands today has developed largely from the chemistry of natural products. The study of natural products continues to be a major driving force in the development of the fields of organic and medicinal chemistry. Natural products are expected to play an important role as one of the major sources of new drugs in the years to come because of their incomparable structural diversity, the relatively small dimensions of many of them and their drug-like properties. Today 50% of the small pharmaceutically important molecules discovered during the past 15 years have been connected to the field of natural products. Medicinal plants display a variety of pharmacological properties and their various derivatives offer a high degree of structural diversity. The associated research and development in medicinal plants have become a rapidly developing and progressively more active topic. Particularly, several medicinal plants compounds are widely used traditionally to treat various types of diseases with high therapeutic potential. It must be emphasized that the isolated compounds from medicinal plants with a combination of derivatives are a well-known approach to design new drug-like molecules. The research work presented in this thesis consists of extraction, isolation, semi-synthesis and biological studies of different medicinal plants. Three different medicinal plants namely Murraya koenigii roots (MKR), Justicia Adahatoda leaves (JAL) and Piper nigrum seeds (PNS) were identified and voucher specimens were stored and used for further reference. newline |
