Abstract: Plants have played a crucial role in maintaining human health and newlineimproving the quality of human life for thousands of years. The World Health newlineOrganization has estimated that 80% of the earth s inhabitants rely on newlinetraditional medicine for their health care needs, and most of this therapy newlineinvolves the use of plants extracts or their active components. In the current newlinestudy, we have made an attempt to screen the phytochemical components found newlinein the leaf and seeds extracts by different solvents of four medicinal plants i.e. newlineOlea europaea (Family- Oleaceae), Aristolochia bracteolate (Familiy- newlineAristolochiaceae), Anisotes trisulcus (Family-Acanthaceae) and Colocynthis newlineCitrullus (Family-Cucurbitaceae),. The results of our study indicated that Olea newlineeuropaea, Aristolochia bracteolate, Anisotes trisulcus and Colocynthis newlineCitrullus. is a promising source of antioxidants showing free radical scavenging newlineactivity and aldose reductase inhibitory activities. The bioactivity studies using newlinethe plant extracts clearly indicate that some of the potential compounds found in newlinethese plant species which may be explored further as lead molecules for human newlinebenefits. newlineThe thesis is basically divided into Five Chapters. newlineThe First Chapter delineates the introductory aspect to Aldose reductase newlineand deals with the survey of literature. The order Tubiflorae belongs to the newlinefamily Acanthaceae with a large number of plants having medicinal properties. newlineA preliminary survey of some plants of Tubiflorae was done. newlineThe Second Chapter Properties of Selected Plants, outlines the methods newlineand standard protocols used for the identity and description of the plants, newlinepreliminary screening of various chemical constituents. and the detailed newlinephysico-chemical analysis of Olea europaea, Aristolochia bracteolate, Anisotes newlinetrisulcus and Colocynthis Citrullus. that was selected to investigate the role of newlinethe plant through various approaches are described. This includes GCMS newlineanalysis, HPTLC etc. newlineThe Third Chapter Isolation and purification of Aldose reductase from newlinebovine le
