Abstract: | Patellofemoral pain, stability and patellofemoral arthritis are a major problem among the younger and older aged individuals. Especially, with the populations where social habits include in load bearing daily activities with deep flexions such as kneeling and squatting. A proper understanding of the knee joint biomechanics may help in significantly improve the prevention and treatment of such disorders. Studies on tendons, cartilages, meniscus, ligaments, bones are continuously been studied and simulated analytically and experimentally with respect to tibiofemoral and patellofemoral joints to observe the behavior during different conditions that prevail within the genders. Apart from the studies mentioned, various other observational studies like arthroplasty, grafting techniques, resurfacing trochlear groove, maltracking of femur, with respect to tibia, maltracking of patella with respect to femur, patellar kinematics such as rotation, flexion, titling are constantly been studied and observed through which various inferences and contradictions evolve which leads the to explore more deeper in the field of orthopedics to determine the factors that affect and contribute to the joint. However age, gender, height, weight and the natural geometry of the each bone plays an important role in each individual leading each case to conclude with different inferences. In this study the behavior of the patellofemoral joint is observed during femoral anteversion and retroversion associated with three patellar kinematics: shift, spin and tilt. newline |
