Abstract: | The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is a worldwide initiative program which utilizes the novel information and communication technology for transport infrastructure and vehicles. The Vehicle Ad hoc NETworks (VANET) are wireless ad hoc networks for supporting the vehicular safety and other commercial applications under the ITS. It supports two types of communications such as vehicle to vehicle and road side unit to vehicle. It is a subset of mobile adhoc network to support high dynamic scenarios. In the present study, a VANET system is treated like a networked control system where the controlling on vehicles can be done in a network environment. Owing to the dependency of the network performance parameters and traffic conditions on mobility of nodes, it is needed to perform an optimal control on the movement of vehicles. The major research focusing areas of this study are the performance of conventional routing protocols in a VANET environment, modified routing strategy for congestion control, the impact of a platoon on the various network parameters and modified control strategy for string stability and noise reduction. At first, the network performance parameters such as throughput, average end to end delay, Packet Delivery Fraction (PDF) and routing load are found for the popular conventional routing protocols under different environments (including macroscopic and microscopic models). newline newline newline |
