dc.description.abstractDiesel engine manufacturers are facing major problems to meet the standards for emissions of smoke particulates unburned hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen Moreover how to increase performance has put focus on the automobile industry and forced them to produce engines with new technology This has led to the development of new combustion systems A lot of research work is going on to meet the above challenges In the present work a computerized single cylinder diesel engine with data acquisition system was used to study the effects of oxygen enriched intake air on the performance combustion and emission characteristics The Use of oxygen enriched air was compared with the atmospheric air for different loads as a result to increase the power output The effects of performance with different injection pressures were also studied in conjunction with oxygen enriched intake air Finally the potential for reduced emissions in the exhaust when using oxygen enrichment was assessed Increasing the oxygen content with the air leads to faster burn rates and the ability to burn more fuel at the same stoichiometry These effects have the potential to decrease specific fuel consumption and increase power output of a diesel engine The power increases considerably with oxygen enrichment newlineen_US
