Rapidly increasing energy costs and growing environmental standards have led to an emerging trend of addressing energy-efficiency aspect of wireless communication. Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Network (CRAHN) is an intelligent wireless communication system that is aware of its environment and efficient utilization of the radio spectrum. Cognitive Radio(CR) can play a significant role in improving energy-efficiency in wireless networks because from the green perspective, spectrum is a natural resource which should not be wasted but be shared. Specifically, in CRAHNs, the dynamic network topology, the distributed multi-hop architecture, and the time and location varying spectrum availability are some of the key distinguishing factors. CR networks, however, impose unique challenges due to the high fluctuation in the available spectrum as well as various Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements in CRAHN. Cognitive radio is a prominent area of research to resolve the spectrum scarcity problem by dynamically exploiting underutilized spectrum bands. It allows unlicensed users to exploit the spectrum vacancies at any time with no or limited extra interference of the licensed users. Moreover, CRs create networks to identify spectrum vacancies, avoid interference, and consequently, increase their revenues. One of the great challenges in CRAHNs is the high energy consumption, which may limit their implementation, particularly in battery-powered terminals. newline newline newline
