The demand for electrical energy is continuously rising in this century, which necessitated taking sustained effort to produce power from various alternative energy resources. The electrical power generation is mainly from fossil fuels and hydro power plants on a large scale. In recent years, renewable energy has been essentially focused because it is pollution free and easily available. Solar energy is one among the renewable power sources which can be used to generate electric energy through photovoltaic process. As it has been practiced in several countries, it is now considered a mature technology. A DC-DC converter is used to regulate DC voltage obtained from solar power generation systems. These converters are more efficient than linear regulators because they can step up or step down the output voltage whereas linear regulators can only step down the supply voltage. The two basic switched mode DC-DC converters are buck converter and boost converter. All other converters are derived from these basic converters. newline
