Abstract: | Every day a huge amount of digital information is stored newlineprocessed and transmitted on internet Most of the on line information is still newlineor video picture in nature In multimedia the uncompressed still or video newlinepicture requires considerable storage capacity and occupies more transmission newlinebandwidth Due to the development in very large scale integration VLSI newlinetechnology there is a rapid progress in mass storage density processor speed newlineand digital communication system performance But the requirements for newlinedigital data storage capacity and digital data transmission bandwidth exceed newlinethe capabilities of the available technologies newlineImage compression is the art of efficiently coding the digital newlineimages to reduce the number of bits required in representing a digital image newlineThe color image compression algorithms exploit the redundancy in an image newlinesuch that the image is represented in smaller number of bits an acceptable newlinevisual quality for the decompressed image is also maintained Color image newlinecompression techniques usually reduce the redundancy between color newlinechannels The RGB color image is transformed into a de correlated color newlinespace such as YCbCr YIQ YUV etc The human visual system is more newlinesensitive to luminance details than to chrominance details Hence the newlinechrominance components are compressed at high rate newline newline |
