dc.description.abstract | Efforts are being made throughout the world to reduce the consumption of liquid newlinepetroleum fuels wherever is possible. Biodiesel is gaining prominence as a substitute newlinefuel for diesel due to their portability, ready availability, renewability, higher heat newlinecontent, lower sulfur content, lower aromatic content, and biodegradability. Direct use newlineof vegetable oil in diesel engine poses many problems. To convert vegetable oil in to newlinebiodiesel, the transesterification process was found to be the most viable process. newlineThe factors affecting on production of biodiesel such as catalyst concentration, newlinealcohol concentration, reaction time and reaction temperature were analyzed. The newlineproduction of biodiesel has been evaluated according to ASTM standards. The Infrared newlinetest of these oils helps in determination of functional groups. Further, NMR test of newlinethese oils has been carried out to find the percentage yield of biodiesel from raw newlinevegetable oils by using transesterification process. A computer assisted single cylinder, newlinewater cooled, constant speed direct injection compression ignition naturally aspirated newlineengine was employed for experimentation. In the present study, suitability of two newlinevegetable oils namely corn oil and rice bran oil and their methyl esters are used as an newlinealternative to diesel engine and are investigated. newlineThe effect of injection parameter on the performance, combustion, and newlineemission, characteristics for the biodiesel-diesel blend B20 at injection pressures of newline180 bar, 200 bar and 220 bar respectively and at injection timing (24 newline0 newline, 27 newline0 newline, 30 newline0 newlineand newline33 newline0 newlinebTDC) are studied. The experimental investigations reveal that the better newlineperformance, combustion and emission characteristics for the blend B20 are obtained newlineat injection pressure of 200 bar and injection timing of 30 newline0 newlinebTDC. newline | |
