Abstract: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) transmits multimedia streams newlineover the Internet, enabling the user to establish real-time voice communications. newlineIn VoIP, the digital multimedia information is packetized and Internet packets newlineare transmitted over a packet switched network. When compared to the newlinetraditional voice communication over a circuit switched network, in VoIP the newlinecustomers are offered with various flexible services such as voice calls, instance newlinemessaging, video conferencing etc, with greater flexibility at lower cost. In these newlineservices, VoIP adopts a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as a signaling protocol newlineto create, manage and terminate a multimedia session. It utilizes the Real-time newlineTransport Protocol (RTP) to transmit media streams through User Datagram newlineProtocol (UDP).Unlike the closed Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) newlinearchitecture, the SIP is deployed on the open Internet standard. Therefore, SIP is newlinehighly vulnerable to signaling and media attacks. In the signaling attacks, newlinesignaling messages are manipulated and in the media attacks, the media newlinemessages are manipulated. As the media security is strongly coupled with newlinesignaling security, the signaling plane act as a gateway for various attackers. In newlinethe signaling plane, an attacker utilizes various SIP signaling messages to misuse newlinethe services by utilising the inherent text-based request/response method in SIP.IP.. newline newline
