dc.description.abstractnewline There is an ever increasing demand in the mobile networks for higher reliability, higher capacity and increased coverage and everything is expected at a reduced cost. The use of multiple antenna techniques has gained overwhelming interest in the past two decades. The concept of using multiple antenna configuration in the place of a single one has proved to be successful in enhancing data transfer rate, reliability, coverage, security and overall performance of wireless networks. The major advantages of Multi-antenna systems are reliability and higher data rate. For combating the multipath fading problem in an indoor/ outdoor wireless environment, a diversity antenna system is a promising candidate. The application of diversity techniques, most commonly assuming two antennas in a mobile terminal, can enhance the reliability of the communication network without sacrificing an additional spectrum or a transmitted power in a rich scattering environments. There is a constant demand for increased data rate for handheld wireless devices/ gadgets. The increase in datarate of existing wireless communication systems is satisfied by a highly successful and more powerful multiple antenna technique called Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). newline newline
