Abstract: Textile industries in India is one of the important agro based industry that contributes newlinea notable share to the gross domestic products. Maharashtra is one of the important newlinecentre that has developed textile industry at various centers of which Thane situated in newlinethe vicinity of Mumbai is also a significant location of textile industry. This sector is newlinedivided into various parts such as composite sector, weaving sector, spinning sector, newlinemill sector, handloom sector, powerloom sector and so on. The powerloom and newlinehandloom sector is spread over various locations in Thane district. A number of newlineproblems are faced by this industry. It is only with the cooperative attitude of owners, newlineemployees and government that the problems can be solved and prospects can be newlinegood. newlineThe researcher has opted this study with a view to locate the problems and suggests newlinesolutions of the same. The study is entitled, A Problems and Prospects of newlineTextile Industry in Thane District . The Objective of this study is to present an newlineanalysis of various problems faced by this industry. The hypothesis are related with newlinethe problems and prospects of this industry. The study is based on a sample of 165 newlinetextile units selected as 141 from the small units, 8 from the medium units and 6 from newlinethe large units. The researcher has applied Chi-Square Test for testing of hypothesis. newlineThe study is divided into six chapters. newlineThe first chapter gives an introduction to the subject matter of study. It states the newlinesignificance and rationale of the problem under study. The research questions newlineconsidered are outlined. It gives the objective, scope, limitations and hypothesis of the newlinestudy. The research methodology is given along with the sample and chapter scheme. newlineThe second chapter is devoted to the review of literature. It reviews various studies in newlinetwo sections namely, general studies related with industry and major studies related newlinewith textile industries in Idia. newlineThe third chapter presents a profile of Thane district.
