Abstract: Metal Matrix Composites have proved to be an important class of materials with the potential to replace a number of conventional materials being used in automotive aerospace and defence industries where the demand for lightweight and higher strength components is increasing MMCs have higher strength density and stiffness density ratios compared to monolithic metals Aluminium alloys are used in advanced applications because of their attractive combination of high strength low density newlinedurability machinability availability and cost when compared to their competing materials The scope of these properties can be extended by using aluminium matrix composite materials reinforced with hard particles Fly ash a solid waste by product during combustion of coal in thermal power plants is one of the most inexpensive and low density reinforcements available in large quantities Fly ash particles are available in two forms namely precipitator and cenosphere Fly ash mainly contains elements like oxygen silicon aluminium, iron calcium magnesium sodium potassium and titanium newline
