dc.description.abstractnewline Encryption is used to construct sensitive information in hidden form through insecure public networks which could only be accessed by the receiver. The plain image is encrypted using chaotic maps and cipher image is produced. Symmetric keys are used for encrypting and decrypting the image. The issues in the image encryption schemes are (i) One dimensional logistic map having periodic windowing problems and selection of control parameter values (ii) Unsuitable key stream generation (iii) More number of rounds in image encryption and (iv) Image encryption with limited randomness. newlineThe issues are identified and addressed by following methods; I. Image encryption using single chaotic and multiple chaotic maps II. Chaotic and hyper-chaotic maps for image encryption, and III. Block-wise and hybrid domain based image encryption newlineThe primary issue is the periodic window problem in one dimensional logistic map addressed by using multiple chaotic maps. The one-dimensional maps have common concerns due to periodic window problem and they are limited to chaotic range, non uniform distribution and vulnerability to chosen plain text attack. newline
