Abstract: | The major objective of the study is to understand the effect of acculturative stress on work attitudes of internal migrants. The work attitudes newlineconsidered in the study are job satisfaction and intention to quit as they are newlinemajor concerns for organisations of the day. The study also attempts to newlineunderstand the role of personal resources i.e. cultural intelligence and newlineresilience as predictors of acculturative stress. The moderation effect of sense newlineof coherence on the personal resources and acculturative stress relationship newlinewas examined. The moderating effect of perceived income adequacy and newlinemigration characteristics on the work attitude relationship was also studied. newlineThe respondents of the study are internal migrants who are working newlinein Chennai. Convenience sampling method was used. The data were obtained newlinefrom 607 internal migrants. A 69 item questionnaire was administered to newlinecollect the primary data. Reliability and validity of the measures were newlineestablished prior to subjecting the data to further analysis. Alpha reliabilities newlinecomputed indicated good reliability of measures used in the study. Validity of newlinethe measures was tested using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The fit indices newlineyielded good results. The level of acculturative stress varies between the rural to urban newlinemigrants and urban to urban migrants. The former exhibited higher level of newlineacculturative stress. The level of cultural intelligence, resilience and sense of newlinecoherence also varies between rural to urban migrants and urban to urban newlinemigrants. Similar results were observed in these cases too. The three newlinedimensions of cultural intelligence predicts acculturative stress. Cultural newlineintelligence was a major predictor of acculturative stress rather than newlineresilience. The moderating effect of dimensions of sense of coherence were newlinesignificant for resilience and acculturative stress relationship newline newline |
