Abstract: Owing to the inflating energy demand and diminishing fossil fuel reserves caused by the exponential growth in population and rapid urbanization escalates the fuel price. On the other hand, environmental pollution caused by the utilization of fossil fuels in transportation sector threatens the biodiversity of earth by increasing the global warming at an alarming rate as compared to previous decades. This current scenario urges the scientists to discover a new energy source to overcome the problem of newlineglobal warming and energy demand. As a remedy, biofuels obtained from natural resources have been recommended for past few decades as a viable solution to satisfy the energy needs of transportation sector. Even though the biofuels obtained from plant oils possess comparable physicochemical properties as that of diesel fuels, the direct and indirect impact of first and second generation biofuels on food crops drives researchers towards third generation biofuels. The third generation biofuels are derived from the waste sources such as biomass, waste frying oil, animal fats, poultry wastes etc. Since the source does not compete with food supply, the fuel derived from these can be obtained at low cost. Among the third generation, biomass is one of the readily available feedstocks for biofuel generation through thermochemical conversion. Energy generation from biomass through pyrolysis is focused by the research community since last decade due to its economic viability. newlineVarious biomass resources from floral species have been investigated for biofuel production. In spite of the several advantages, biomass possesses certain drawbacks like deteriorated fuel conversion efficiency, poor physicochemica properties of the derived fuel and ash buildup. Since the quality of the fuel derived from biomass depends mainly on the quality of the parent feedstock, it is important to select the feedstock with enhanced characteristics. newline newline
