Abstract: | Past few decades have seen the emergence in energy demands and newlineenvironment pollution. The idea of meeting energy demands without adding newlineto environmental pollution has triggered research interests towards nonconventional newlinemodes of energy generation such as photovoltaic cells, fuel cells newlineetc.Fuel cells are highly promising candidates for clean energy newlineproduction involving a conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy newlinewith out imposing any negative impact on the surroundings. Among the newlinecurrently researched and developed fuel cells, Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) newlineare an efficient option with flexible fuel choices and good life expectancy. newlineSOFCs are normally categorized as high temperature technology as its newlineoperating temperature normally falls between 600 oC to 1000 oC. However, in newlinethe present scenario research is underway to decrease the operating newlinetemperature to Intermediate Temperatures (600 ºC - 800 ºC). Development of newlinenew materials can boost the emergence of renewable source based energy newlinesystems. Perovskite (ABO3) structures, with impressive structure and newlineproperties, are a feasible group of materials for energy based researches. newlineBrownmillerite structures are derivatives of perovskite materials and possess newlineinteresting properties at high temperature, high pressure, humid atmosphere newlineand also shows reactivity with CO2. Among brownmillerite compounds, newlineCa2Fe2O5 has been reported for its mixed ionic electronic properties, catalytic newlineand magnetic properties. newline newline |
