Abstract: There is a growing demand for high data rate ubiquitous broadband wireless services at an affordable cost. Spectrally efficient techniques are required to provide high data rate services due to scarcity of spectrum resources. Frequency reuse technique is traditionally used to significantly improve the spectral efficiency by dividing the entire geographical area in to smaller regions called cells, and same frequency is reused to provide services to the masses. The fourth generation and emerging fifth generation orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based broadband wireless technologies such as Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), long term evolution advanced and 3GPP new radio standards are developed to meet the above said goal. Orthogonal frequency division multiple access technique utilizes the newlinespectrum efficiently by using overlapping subcarriers avoiding guard band between subcarriers. Techniques employing multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver are used to increase the capacity and/or to improve the reliability of the wireless channel. These Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) techniques can be used to serve multiple streams of data to one user on a given channel (a.k.a. single user MIMO), or to serve multiple users data on the same channel (a.k.a. multiuser MIMO) in a spectrally efficient manner. Moreover, the multiple antennas at the receiver can be used to suppress/cancel interferences enabling to improve the spectral efficiency in cellular systems. newline newline
