dc.description.abstractnewline Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) emerged from Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET). In DTNs, there is a lack of continuous end to end connectivity among all the nodes and the network is also frequently partitioned. Therefore to deliver the information from one node to another node in DTNs, the routing problem exists. If nodes are having mobility, the problems become more complex. Traditional routing protocols that are used for ad hoc networks are not suitable to DTNs because of the intermittent connectivity and continuous partitions among them. Probabilistic routing, Flooding based routing and Knowledge based routing have been suggested by many people to overcome this interconnectivity and network partitions. But flooding based schemes consume more resources and the overhead will be more. In the case of long duration of disconnection, knowledge based schemes use ferries. But they need online collaboration between them. Existing routing protocols suggested for DTNs are not suitable for some applications since they often achieve a high delivery ratio at higher cost and consuming more resources.
