Abstract: | Lean manufacturing has been an area of interest for academicians, newlineindustrialists and practitioners since it improves the competitiveness of newlinemanufacturing industries. In todayand#8223;s competitive world, manufacturing newlineindustries are emerging at an incredible rate and performance enhancement newlinebecomes a significant strategy to accomplish and sustain growth. In this newlineaspect, identification of best practices to assess lean manufacturing is newlineimportant.Review of existing researches show that adoption of lean practices newlinein India is still a new topic of research. Lean principles are practiced mainly newlineby discrete manufacturing organizations. Continuous processing industries are newlineyet to follow lean practices. Less awareness, reluctance of managers and newlineinflexible machineries are the main barriers for lean practices. Industries are newlinealso unaware about the measures of performance and appropriate selection of newlinecorrective actions. Systematic lean implementation and lean tool selection newlineprocedures are found very less in literature. On the selection of lean tools for newlinemanufacturing industries, the ambiguity and uncertainty lead to imprecise and newlineinsufficient level of judgements made by decision makers. The literature newlinereveals that the assessments made using fuzzy linguistic variables are very newlinecloser to human thinking rather than the crisp number based methods. newlineMethods integrating Fuzzy Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FFMEA), newlineFuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Fuzzy Quality Function newlineDeployment (FQFD) on the selection of lean tools are rarely found. newline newline |
