Abstract: Wear is destruction to a solid surface frequently including newlineprogressive loss of materials, owing to relative motion between the surface newlineand contacting areas. It is a material s response to the external environment newlineand can be mechanical or chemical in nature. The effect of wear on the newlinereliability of industrial components is widely recognised to be high. Wear newlinebehaviour of various alloys and metal matrix composites has been extensively newlinestudied, but still there are wear problems present in industrial applications. newlineThis in reality conceals the complexity of the wear phenomenon. An newlineimprovement in the weight specific properties can result in offering the newlinepossibilities of widening the application area and substitution of advanced newlinematerials, and hence optimisation of component properties is required. The newlinechance of combining various material compositions, for example metal matrix newlinecomposites, gives the opportunity for boundless variation in properties. newlineThe present research work involves the experimental investigation newlineof the mechanical and tribological behaviour of Cu-Cr metal matrix newlinereinforced with x(ZrC/B4C) nanoparticles content (x = 0, 4 and 8 wt. %) by newlinePowder Metallurgy (P/M) technique. Cylindrical compacts of 16 mm diameter newlinewere prepared using the mechanical alloying of Cu-4Cr-x (ZrC/B4C) newlinepowders. The required powders were green compacted by using suitable die newlineset and punch assembly on a Compression Testing Machine having the newlinecapacity of 2 MN. Compacting pressure was applied gradually, and it was 1.1 newlineGPa for all specimens. Molybdenum disulfide was used to lubricate the newlinepunch, the die and the butt. The sintered compacts initial density of 87 % of newlinetheoretical density was achieved by precisely monitoring the compacting newlinepressure applied. newline newline
