dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of risk factors, including abdominal obesity, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia and hypertension. The components of metabolic syndrome (MS) have been investigated for more than nine decades. The MS is defined by different criteria by different organizations. Most recently, Asia Pacific guideline of modified national cholesterol education programme: adult treatment panel III (modified NCEP: ATP-III) has been given most acceptable definition of MS for south Asian Indian researchers. newlinePrevalence of MS in rural areas of India has not been investigated adequately. No report could be found on renal dysfunction in MS in rural areas of India. Therefore, the present investigation was conducted to find out: (i) the relative prevalence of different components of MS in individual patients and (ii) the presence of renal dysfunction in patients having MS. newlineResearch question: What is the prevalence of renal dysfunction in patients with metabolic syndrome in rural population? newlineStudy area and population: The study was conducted among the rural patients. Rural area is defined as the area beyond the Municipal Corporation or Municipal Committee comes under the Gram Panchyat.
