Abstract

The present investigation Study of combining ability through line X tester analysis in wheat (T aestivum and T durum) was carried out during the cropping season of 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 at Research Farm, R.B.S. College, Bichpuri, Agra. Studies were made to select suitable parents in aestivum and durum types to be used in hybridization and also to find out the feasibility of broadening the genetic base of the existing genotypes upon which selection may operate successfully, as such observations were made on the following. newlinegt studying the combining ability of parents and hybrids gt identifying potential parents and hybrids gt heterosis for yield and yield components gt genetic components of variances involved in the expression of these characters gt variability parameters among parents, their hybrids and F2 segregating populations gt interrelationships among various yield and its contributing characters and their direct and indirect effects on kernel yield which is the ultimate goal for improvement of existing agronomically accepted genotypes of wheat. newline
