Experimental investigations of the performance emission and combustion characteristics of biodiesels in a single cylinder diesel engine

Abstract

The ever increasing consumption of fossil fuel and petroleum products has been a matter of great concern for India The huge outflow of foreign exchange on one hand and the increase in the price of crude oil on the other hand have affected the development of India This led to the increase in inflation up to 7 00 as on July 2012 Apart from this pollution and related health hazards global warming climatic change energy security depletion of fossil fuels and problems relating to transport and distribution of non renewable conventional fuels have propelled alternative energy and related technologies to the fore front of national agenda The consumption of diesel fuel is six times higher than that of gasoline in India and even a few percentage of substitution for diesel fuel will save a considerable amount of foreign exchange India has the high potential for producing liquid bio fuel like ethanol methanol bio diesel etc Bio diesel is considered to be a promising alternative to fossil fuels worldwide Because it is derived from renewable resources this can greatly improve energy security and prevent the shortage of conventional fuel In this present work, four different blend ratios of esters in varying newlineproportions viz 20 40 60 80 with diesel and pure esters are used for investigating performance combustion and emission characteristics The esters and their blends were prepared in a laboratory newline
