Abstract: Foundries are the major environmental polluters in India The exhaust gases from foundries have higher concentration of pollutants like foundry dust, Particulate Matters PM etc Pollution Control Devices PCD play a vital role in collecting pollutants and are responsible for releasing cleaner air to the environment. Nowadays many small size foundries in India are not able to collect the pollutants from the exhaust gas as per the standards given by Pollution Control Board PCB because of the lower collection efficiency of the PCDs In this research work a new hybrid pollution control system has been developed which contains serial arrangement of two PCDs wet filter followed by dry filter The performance of the hybrid system can newlinebe evaluated by its collection efficiency Numerical Analysis is used to calculate the collection efficiency of the scrubber systems. The collection efficiencies of wet filter dry filter and the hybrid system were analyzed and compared The comparison result shows that the hybrid system has better collection efficiency Artificial Neural Network ANN has been used for validating the Numerical Analysis Since the variation between the Numerical Analysis and ANN results was too low the validation of the results is obtained The Taguchi Design of Experiment is used in order to plan the experimental runs Controllable Parameters like Gas Velocity Droplet Diameter Particle Density and Pressure Drop were considered for optimization The above parameters were optimized to achieve higher collection efficiency L27 orthogonal array is used for designing the experiments Analysis of Variance ANOVA was carried out to determine the contribution of each parameter newlineand to identify the critical parameters affecting collection efficiency newline newline
