Abstract: Antimony trisulphide is a material which belongs to the group of newlineVVI compounds Among the metal sulphides SbS has attracted attention newlinefor its application as a target material for television cameras as well as newlinemicrowave switching and optoelectronic devices In the present study SbS newlinethin films have been deposited on glass substrates by chemical bath newlinedeposition spray pyrolysis and vacuum evaporation techniques The SbS newlinethin films are deposited by chemical bath deposition technique at room newlinetemperature for different deposition time periods 25 35 and 45 hrs and by newlinevarying the concentration of Sb in the molar ratios of Sb S 0102 01502 newlineand 0202 M The prepared films are annealed at 423 K The SbS thin newlinefilms are prepared by spray pyrolysis technique by varying the concentration newlineof sulphur in the molar ratios of Sb S 0103 01045 and 0106 M and newlinethe temperature is optimized to 250 C The thickness of the deposited films newlinehas been determined by using the gravimetric technique The SbS thin films newlineare prepared by using vacuum evaporation technique for different thickness newline500 1400 and 2800 Å The SbS thin films of thickness 2800Å are newlineannealed at temperature 473 and 523 K The pressure during evaporation is newlinemaintained at 2x10Torr and the thickness of the film is measured by newlineemploying quartz crystal monitor technique newlineThe structural characterization is carried out by Xray diffraction newlineXRD scanning electron microscopy SEM and atomic force microscopic newlinestudies AFM The composition of the various constituents in SbS thin newlinefilms has been determined by energy dispersive Xray analysis EDAX The newlineXray diffraction pattern of chemical bath deposited SbS thin films for newlinedifferent deposition time periods has shown amorphous nature and after newlinethermal annealing at 423 K the films have shown the polycrystalline nature newlinewith orthorhombic structure The annealed films at 423 K for different newlineconcentrations of Sb have shown polycrystalline nature with a large number newlineof well defined peaks SbS thin films prepared by this technique newline newline
