New organic and semiorganic crystals exhibiting second and third order non linear optical susceptibilities have been prepared and characterized All the crystals have been synthesized by slow evaporation technique Optically good quality crystals have been isolated by repeated recrystallization The new organic NLO crystals 4 aminocarbonyl pyridine 4 aminocarbonyl pyridinium hydrogen L malate (4ACP)(4ACP)(LM) Isonicotinamide p nitro phenol ICPNP Isonicotinamide Bis p amino benzoic acid INBAB have been characterized by single crystal XRD FTIR newlineUV Visible TGA/DTA studies In the organic cocrystal (4ACP)(4ACP)(LM) the asymmetric unit contains one hydrogen L malate anion 4 aminocarbonyl pyridinium newlinecation and a neutral isonicotinamide molecule The intermolecular N H O C H O and O H O hydrogen bonds in these molecules generate a three dimensional network which stabilizes the molecular packing in the crystal structure The optical transmittance window and lower cut off wavelength are found to be 321 to 900 nm and 321 nm respectively The band gap of the crystal was calculated to be 3.79 eV Thermal stability of the material found to be 165oC Laser damage threshold value for the crystal was found to be 1.75 GW/cm2. Third order non linear susceptibility from Z scan technique was determined to be 5 36 10-6 esu The isonicotinamide p nitro phenol ICPNP crystal structure shows that the molecular packing in the crystal is chiefly dictated by intermolecular newline newline
