Abstract: newlineEvaluation of scientific research is essential for understanding the newlinenature direction volume and impact of the growth of disciplines Such newlineevaluation leads not just to study the disciplines but enable to measure the newlinecontribution of people documents institutions and countries The evaluation newlineexercises are now called as scientometric evaluation that aims to use different newlinemetrics and these metrics are now improved in order to gain deeper newlineunderstanding The evaluation of scientific research in terms of volume and newlinequality is needed in many areas of research such as in financial decisionmaking newlineand funding in connection with granting awards applications newlineselections and appointments to a post and also international evaluations and newlinedecisions on science policy Methods of information science such as newlinesystematic searching and bibliometrics scientometrics are used to newlinesystematically obtain information newlineDuring the past decades bibliometric methods were successfully newlinedeveloped and tested regarding research performance in basic scientific newlinedisciplines such as Chemistry Physics and Biomedical Sciences Bibliometric newlineindicators have proven to be useful tools in the assessment of research newlineperformance in many scientific disciplines provided that such indicators have newlinea sufficient level of sophistication that their pitfalls are taken into account, newlineand that they are used in combination with other more qualitative information newlineon the research groups analyzed Such tools do not aim to replace peer newlinejudgments but instead supplement them as evaluation support tools newline newline
