Enhanced security framework for authentication and integrity mechanisms in the umts system

Abstract

The Universal Mobile Telecommunications System UMTS is the most popular third generation mobile communication systems which is based on the second generation System for Mobile GSM communication standard The UMTS system is designed to provide support for Internet like mobile services and specific services like mobile commerce to mobile users Due to its wireless infrastructure there will be different types of attacks from internet and mobile devices The common attacks which UMTS encounters are Denial of Service DoS Distributed Denial of Service DDoS Eavesdropping, Message Forgery Man in The Middle Attack MiM Session newlineHijacking Unauthorized Access Redirection Attack etc Denial of Service attack is a common and challenging issue for access of a legitimate user to mobile services and it crashes the system resources by denying permission to authorized users Many techniques have been proposed by researchers to address this DoS attack Most of the security mechanisms have dealt individually with DoS attack man in the middle newlineattack DDoS or similar types of attacks But there is no standard research in addressing some of these common attacks altogether newline newline
