All garments manufacturing industry has put in nonstop effort for its survival in the modern volatile economy A detailed study has been conducted for six years at garment industry in Tirupur The basic idea behind lean manufacturing is to reduce waste which does not add value to the finished items Most of the existing research articles reveal the impact of lean tools in organisation only but this study of lean implementation was done in consideration of reducing major wastes that arise in the garment industrial scenario based on investigation and statistical analysis for ranking lean wastes Different styles of three different garment products were chosen for this research work such as Executive Shirts Executive Pants and high quality Tshirts Main theme of this research has identifications on significant problems related to lean waste that occurs in garments and have been measured using suitable lean tools and techniques In the initial stage investigation was carried out for ranking eight types of lean wastes in selected garments The calculated percentage and standard deviation values are in favour of this important lean waste and theoretical explanations are described for each waste through this study Garment manufacturers find it easy to identify how these kinds of lean wastes affects the garment manufacturing scenario Maximum number of the respondents stated that defects motion and over production are the major wastes that affect the garment production Therefore this research suggests that the industrial practitioners production managers and chief executives have to monitor these three important lean wastes and essential steps must be taken systematically in order to eliminate them newline
