dc.description.abstract | Actinomycetes constitute the most important group of bacteria in newlinewhich Streptomyces having the high potential in producing secondary newlinemetabolites eg antibiotics Streptomycetes are soil bacteria having DNA with newlinea high GC content similar to that of other actinomycetes generaMany of the newlineindustrially important antibiotics and secondary metabolites produced by newlineStreptomyces species have been well studied therefore by isolating newlineactinomycetes from an environment such as Eastern Ghats for the potential of newlinediscovering novel secondary metabolites of industrial significance is newlineincreased Actinomycetes play an important role in the rhizosphere region newlinewhere they influence plant growth and protect plant roots against invasion by newlinepathogenic fungi newlineFor the present study the Kolli hills and Yercaud hills were newlineselected from the Eastern Ghats region The study was extended towards the newlinediscovery of the bioactive metabolite having the property to inhibit the cell newlinegrowth of the pathogenic microorganisms and against the human breast newlinecancerous cell line newlineThe Streptomyces strains were isolated from the rhizosphere and newlinenon rhizosphere region of the selected medicinal plants The soil samples newlinewere subjected for the analysis of the physico chemical and edaphic factors newlineA total of 168 strains were isolated using SCN agar medium and the newlinepopulation density was determined in relation with the depth and the distance newlineof the soil samples collected The isolated samples were subjected to newlinevariousmorphological physiological and biochemical traits Based on the newlineproduction potential of the secondary metabolite four isolates were selected newlinefor the proposed study All the four strains were identified as Streptomyces newlinefollowed by the Bergeys manualand was confirmed by comparing with the newlineMTCC strainStreptomyces sannanensis Two strains Yer11 Yer28 from Yercaud hills and Kol35 Kol44 newlinefrom Kolli hills were selected These strains along with the standard MTCC newlinestrain were analysed for the utilization of different carbon nitrogen amino newlineacids and vitamin sources newline | en_US |
