The advancement in microelectronics has enabled the development newlineof low cost and low power multifunctional sensors Composing these sensor newlinenodes into sophisticated computational and communication infrastructures to newlineform wireless sensor networks is a unique challenge to modern technology A newlinewireless sensor network is composed of a large number of sensor nodes and newlinethey are densely deployed in the field to monitor the environment collect the newlinedata and route it to a sink Wireless sensor network is an emerging field with newlinevarious applications extending from domestic to military The main constraint newlineis that the nodes in such a network have a battery of limited stored energy the newlinenetwork lifetime gets reduced In many of its applications it is difficult or newlinesometimes impossible to recharge or replace the battery Thus extending the newlinelifetime of the network plays a pivotal role in wireless sensor networks newlineespecially where human access is not possible for many applications newlineThe processing and energy limitation of the sensor nodes pose a newlinegreater challenge and make it difficult to extend the lifetime of the network A newlinevariety of energy efficient operations have been proposed in the literature to newlineincrease the lifetime of the nodes in wireless sensor networks There are newlinevarious topology management schemes such as SPAN STEM GAF BEES newlineetc for improving network parameters such as capacity energy coverage newlineand latency These schemes improve some parameters at the cost of some newlineother important network parameters newline newlineen_US
