dc.description.abstractAdvanced oxidation process AOP has the potential to treat newlineorganic pollutants in wastewater including endocrine disrupting chemicals newlineAdvanced oxidation process is based on the in situ generation of hydroxyl newlineradicals which are highly reactive and nonselective oxidant to oxidize organic newlinecompounds present in wastewater into carbon dioxide and water newlinePhotocatalytic degradation employing semiconductors as newlinephotocatalyst is a promising and attractive method for the removal of organic newlinepollutants in wastewater Titania has been proved to be the most suitable newlinecatalyst for widespread environmental application because of its biological newlineand chemical inertness strong oxidizing power cost effectiveness and longterm newlinestability against photo and chemical corrosion The improvement of the newlinesensitivity of TiO in the visible region for photocatalytic application is of newlinegreat importance Photosensitization of TiO with other transition metal newlineoxides can extend its light absorption property in the visible region Such newlinematerials could emerge as excellent catalysts for solar photocatalytic newlinedegradation At nano scale photocatalytic characteristics are greatly enhanced newlineby the increased surface area and modification of their optical properties due newlineto size quantization At the mesoscale proper spatial arrangement of layered newlineinorganic materials can assist electronenergy transfer Fabrication of newlinehierarchically ordered mesoporous materials in particular TiO has attracted newlinemuch attention in view of their fundamental and practical applications newlineHighly efficient visible light active mesoporous FeO TiO newlinemesoporous Ce incorporated TiO and mesoporous WOTiO catalysts were newlinesynthesized and characterized These materials were tested for the destruction newlineof endocrine disrupting chemicals such as 4chlorophenol and alachlor in newlineaqueous medium In addition visible light active carbon doped TiO was newlinesynthesized with a view to degrade rhodamine B dye newlineMesoporous FeOTiO 10 30 50 70 and 90 wt FeO newlinephotocatalysts were synthesized by solgel method and characterized using newlinedifferenten_US
