Abstract: | In 2002 the Federal Communications Commission of the United State officially released the regulation for Ultra wideband technology In this regulation, the spectrum from 3 1 GHz to 106 GHz is allocated to the unlicensed indoor UWB communication systems According to this regulation UWB technology which is based on transmitting ultra short newlinepulses with duration of only a few nanoseconds or less has recently received great attention in various fields for the short distance wireless communications Because of the ultra wideband property UWB technology has many benefits, which are high data rate low power consumption compactness low cost excellent immunity to multipath interference and reduced hardware complexity Due to these advantages a need arises to design and develop an antenna for UWB applications A competent UWB antenna should be capable of operating over an ultra wide bandwidth as assigned by the FCC But over the allocated UWB frequency range there exist 5 GHz Wireless Local Area Network bands which may interfere with the ultra wideband Therefore an antenna with band notched function for 5 GHz WLAN is highly desirable to overcome this difficulty Nowadays it is often necessary to design an antenna which can be used for multifunctional wireless communication systems such as 2 4 GHz WLAN and UWB newlinecommunications Another key requirement of this antenna is of the good time newlinedomain behavior i e a good impulse response with minimal distortion newline newline |
