dc.description.abstractABSTRACT newlinePresent research work was conducted with the major objectives to study adoption of TQM practices in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies and to investigate the relationship between TQM adoption and organizational performance. The study tries to identify the areas where adoption of TQM and its performance is lagging behind and also tries to highlight those areas which require special attention to achieve the desired results. newlineStatistical data on pharmaceutical manufacturers in Himachal was obtained from the office of drug controller of Himachal Pradesh, there were 534 large, medium and small pharmaceutical manufacturing companies operating at 6 different locations of the state. The sample size for the present study was 50% i.e. 267 units, proportionate stratified random sampling was used to select sample companies from 6 areas and belonging to large, medium and small according to their investment criteria. Production manager, Quality manager and Supervisors were selected as respondents from each unit. Data could finally be obtained from 218 pharmaceutical manufacturing units due to non-response. Self-administered questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The study was carried out using 12 dimensions comprising of 65 variables pertaining to TQM adoption and 3 dimensions comprising of 44 variables pertaining to TQM performance. newlineIt was observed that TQM was being adopted at medium rate in case of most of the variables and similarly performance of TQM revealed slight increase in performance in case of most variables. None of the variables of TQM adoption was adopted at very high rate and none of the variable was observed to have significantly increased as a result of TQM. Study found 12 new dimensions of TQM adoption and 11 new dimensions of TQM performance. newlineStudy revealed that there was significant relationship between TQM adoption and Organizational outcome as a result of TQM performance.
