Designing and development of web based Mandal information system using Geomatics: a case study from Prakasam District

Abstract

Geomatics Technology has developed at a significant pace over the past two decades and will playing key role in development of nations in the 21st century; thereupon. Now time has come for all decision makers, researchers and academicians to discuss the importance of geomatics technology and its applications to development of the nation in various fields like, industrial, socioeconomic, educational infrastructure development etc with special emphasis on rural sector. In a developing country like India where 65% of the people resides in rural area and 27% in urban areas, we require a very structured planning and procedure such that the developmental activities and infrastructure facilities are available at both urban and rural area. Andhra Pradesh, as a one of the major agricultural dependant state in India, faces a number of challenges in the path of rural development. One of the main causes is absence of perfect digital data base in the form of digital thematic information at large scale levels for decision making process. The present research work emphasizing the power of GIS, Remote sensing and GPS technology which will help the educationists, planners, researchers, decision makers, administrators, communication professionals and officials from various departments of state government of Andhra Pradesh to better understand and evaluate spatial data by creating graphic displays using geoinformation stored in the database on ARCGIS platform for rural development. The study area selected for the project is Vetapalem Mandal from Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh. This is one of the coastal mandal with newlineviii newlineChirala mandal on North, Chinnaganjam mandal on south, Bay of Bengal on East and Naguluppalapadu mandal on West.
