Abstract: | Electronic Design Automation EDA encompasses algorithms and newlinemethodologies for designing VLSI circuits and is concerned with the design newlineand production of VLSI systems One of the important steps in creating a newlineVLSI circuit is its physical design The input to the physical design step is a newlinelogical representation of the system under design The output of this step is newlinethe layout of a physical package that optimally or near optimally realizes the newlinelogical representation The physical design problem is usually decomposed into the newlinefollowing subproblems Partitioning Placement Floorplanning Routing and newlineCompaction Partitioning is the task of dividing a circuit into smaller parts in newlineorder to reduce the problem size The circuit is often divided into portions that newlineare implemented separately The goal is to partition the circuit such that the newlinesizes of the parts are within prescribed ranges and the complexity of newlineinterconnections between these parts is minimized Floorplan determines the newlineperformance size yield and reliability of VLSI chips The goal of VLSI newlinefloorplanning is to find a floorplan for the modules such that no module newlineoverlaps with another module and the objectives are optimized One of the newlinemost important objective is floorplan area minimization newline |
