Abstract: The idea of WDM under optical network is to transmit data simultaneously at multiple carrier wavelengths over a single fiber Since very large amount of information is being carried any problem during transmission can lead to severe damage to the data being carried Hence it is necessary to implement fault tolerance scheme to protect the system from failures This research work describes the development of efficient routing newlinealgorithms for fault tolerant optical network The RFTR algorithm provides the way for the design of survival optimal path setup The primary path design is based on the concept of load balancing The backup path setup takes the multi constraint parameters as number of free wavelength backup wavelength and hop count Whenever the primary path has the least cost function with cost of infinity then backup path is selected The proposed RFTR algorithm produces improved channel utilization reduced blocking probability and reduced average packet delay than existing CTEW and DPBR algorithms newlineThe second method proposes the Reliable Routing and Wavelength Assignment algorithm for implementing effective routing and wavelength assignment scheme This algorithm uses two constraints for selecting the best path Based on these constraints two cost functions on load and wavelength are determined which yield combined cost function newline newline
