An important factor in the success of video products and services is video compression that makes digital video a relatively more practical approach in current communication networks and storage devices However video compression involves complex encoding algorithms whose real time execution is particularly challenging in portable devices due to severe constraints in terms of size and power consumption In addition to that modern devices are expected to be flexible enough to support a plethora of video coding standards Motion estimation is the main coding tool for removing the temporal redundancy of video scenes which typically accounts for 50 90 percent of the prevailing video encoding complexity The performance of the ME algorithms is measured by the computational complexity present in video coding in terms of the number of search points and measurement of picture quality using a peak signal to noise ratio newlineen_US
