Abstract: | Most of the software development organizations all over the world are newlinesmall and medium enterprises In India the existing software engineering and newlineorganization development literature acknowledges that there are fundamental newlineoperational differences between small and large organizations Successful newlineimplementation of Software Process Improvement SPI methodologies in newlineSmall and Medium software Enterprises SMEs is generally not possible newlinebecause such organizations are not capable of investing in the cost of newlineimplementing these programs Limited resources and strict deadlines to newlinecomplete the projects make it further difficult to implement Software Process newlineImprovement SPI programs which can also affect the quality issues in newlinesoftware project Despite this recognition there has been no attempt to verify newlinewhether small software organizations implement SPI programs differently in newlineorder to advance their businesses newlineThis study examines whether an Indian Small and Medium software newlineEnterprises size affects its SPI implementation strategy and the degree of SPI newlinesuccess Based on an extensive literature review of critical factors of quality newlinemanagement organizational learning and SPI this study develops a newlineframework which comprises three components The first is to determine how newlineclose the organizations are to achieve Capability Maturity Model Integration newline CMMI level by using an Extended Maturity Questionnaire EMQ newlineSecondly since the results obtained from the organizations are uncertain and newlineperplexing fuzzy approach is applied to get the exact score in order to derive newlinea conclusion In order to make efficient decision a tool was developed for newlinevalidating the results obtained newlineThirdly an optimization technique is applied to ensure the correctness newlineof the fuzzy conclusion The Cuckoo search is employed for optimizing the newlineresult The findings show that small organizations can implement SPI newlineelements as effectively as large organizations and in turn achieve high newlineorganizational performance newline newline |
